Before Japanese Coach comes out (soon - next month) this would be the only DS game that teaches hiragana / katakana and basic vocab. It's not bad - has writing / reading / word to image matching.

There's lots of games that do Kanji, but we have to start somewhere, and Kanji's so hard. :|
