  • This is supposed to have the same protection as the Japan rom: the first scene on the boat never ends, no matter how many people you talk to. This is supposed to be the same. Luckily a cheat was already made to bypass this at GBAtemp.

  • I played DQ 5 in chinese and I can say that it is a great game despite its antiquity. It spans for 3 generations, allowing you to play as a kid, an adult, and the still handsome adult with kids. (You will be petrified for 8 years while your kids grows up) It also allows you to choose brides (I think? Never chose anyone else as a bride) and have the same DQ feel we all love.

  • So, I am trying to utilize the cheat to play this awesome game... I'm running the current firmware on an R4. I downloaded the cheat database editor from the r4 website, and entered the codes from GBATemp as per the instructions... yet, no love. The "cheat" option doesn't even show up within the R4 rom selector... can anyone point me to either 1) really thorough instructions for doing this or 2) A pre-patched copy of the game.

  • I went through all the steps to patch it, but it still won't play correctly.... If someone would pre-patch this game it'd be sweet.

  • I use Acekard 2i, apply latest cheat compiled by Narin of GBAtemp, and yay! Now at home village.

    Just make sure you go to Captain's cabin.

  • For those using R4DS 1.18, copy the updated cheat.dat database from http://cheats.gbatemp.net/latest/CHEAT.DAT.zip to your \_system\_ folder.

    Check cheat before launching, activate the copy protection cheat, and voila...

  • What do u need to do in that ghost tower or something when the king tells you that there is a torch in the kitchen ? If I go in that cave there is a wall between the room with the 3 treasure chests and the kitchen. Or is it another way I need to go ?

  • The thing that i find the most odd, is that the protected Japanese rom worked fine for me, I checked to see if I would get stuck on the boat. I did not. But when I tried this version, im Definately stuck on the boat. very strange. As well I use a M3 Real.

  • The fix from gbatemp is posing me problem; i am putting the nds rom file in the same folder as the fix then run the batch file...but it keeps saying it can't patch it...did i miss a step??

  • @Ezmagon I've got the supercard as well and I've been having problem with getting the fix to work. I converted the AR code over to an.scc file and applied the code but the game just keeps reseting on me now at the title screen.

    Can you upload the .scc file or cut and paste the contents of your .cht file here so i can convert it over.

  • Agreed, a prepatched version would be great. I've spent two hours just looking at and trying to understand how to use cheats and other things mentioned on how to fix the protection problem only to end up even more confused then before.

    Yes, this is DQ5. For some bizarre reason Squeenix takes the numbers off all the European releases of the DQ games.

  • No offence, but the one like joker is the better style of dragon quest.

  • Joker was great, but a totally different style of game. It seems it would be easier to make the 3D, thick cell animation in a monster-battle type format than the whole remade old-school rpg.

  • I had major issues trying to get this to work as well. For anyone wondering here's what I went through...

    I'm using the M3 DS Real. I downloaded Narin's new cheat database, and uploaded "cheat.db" (overwriting old copy) to my SYSTEM folder:

    I started up the DS, selected the DQV rom, went to the Cheat window and checked the protection check, set the cheat status to "Always on" booted up the game and could not get this to work.

    Then I tried DSATM and got it to work:

    Create a file called "cheat.txt" and place the following in it:

  • For people who use TTDS use DSATM to patch. Here's the link for instructions and codes. Make when you are patching make sure you have checked off these three things "Patches/Trainer" "Enable/Enable at start" & "DSTT?" Now it works perfect.

    I have an M3 DS Real, i'll just wait for a system update. They're super fast for the updates, Chronotrigger (E)'s piracy check is already bypassed in the last update lol.

  • There is a huge CHEAT.dat database at GBATEMP, it gives a cheat code BYPASS for DRAGON QUEST 5 as well as others like CHRONO TRIGGER AND PHANTASY STAR 0 and it also has heaps of cheats for nearly every good ds game released. DEFINATLY WORTH DOWNLOADING the database.



    this game is awesome very long storyline and really good gameplay. itll last 20-30 hrs+

  • I've been hearing a lot of people ask if certain ones work on the r4. Does the r4 not play more roms? My acekard doesn't play Super Double Dragon properly or Contra 3.

  • There is *nothing* wrong with the R4, as I've said, I tend to DL and try MANY games and have never had an issue besides the same ones everyone has and they're easy to fix.

  • Yes kastion, it seems it seems a lot of people with supercard are facing this problem but it's ok:

    1. the US rom isn't out yet and when it does i am sure it will be already patched or a more advanced fix will see the day...

    2. just wait for the flashcard to update its firmware or its OS (in case of a flashcard)

  • My son managed to download it from megaupload and then I got it; but it still doesn't work (black screens), so I guess it's safe to say that it doesn't work with Cyclo Evolution. I just upgraded the firmware to v. 1.53 the other day. No newer versions yet. I'll just wait for the US version - and if that doesn't work either I'll have to think of buying the game. I usually only buy the games when I've tried them out first. I do have loads of bought games, so I don't think my conscience are stained because I check out the games here before I buy them. I just hate when people like Eline13 tells me and other people to stop crying because we can't get it to work. I don't see anyone crying here - but I guess this discussion should have been in the forum - not here. I did check the forum; but I couldn't find anything about it.

  • 90\% of this comments are people who ask how this works. 5\% how it works and 5\% about the game. If it doesn't work with Cyclo, isn't our problem. Read reviews of flashcards and buy one which works with all games.

    step 1) use the rapidshare download provided by Ezmagon a few posts above. it should be an scc. file

    step 2) go here http://www.scdev.org/forum/index.php/topic,14550.0.html and follow all the directions. it should work, if not, download the latest patch

    step 3) play the game

    Patch works for me using M3simply. There is a small graphical glitch, under each character there is a whitish square. Maybe I should change cards. No big deal though, the game works great, and is a lot of fun!

    I never said that it was anyone's problem that the game doesn't work on my card. When you write the above it only shows that you don't know much about cards either - actually my card did work with all games - until this game, that is.....

    I don't get why you keep posting when you really have nothing to say about this game... That's plain dumb - and a waste of time. As I said - I'll give up on this and go buy the game instead. Lots of people here said that it's a great game, so I trust them enough to actually pay for it without seeing it first. I want to thank those that tried to help - and those that told about the game and had an opinion. And for those that have nothing constructive to share - oh well - I pity you...

  • Probably worth mentioning that just talking to the captain doesn't bring the cut scene, you have to talk to him, then the 2 men in the room at the back with the treasure chests, then when u exit the cut scene begins
