    does anyone know if the main character has a real name? like most of the SMT games have a real name from the manga or anime. persona 4 is souji seta which is what i named the main character here. so does the main character have a name?

  • Ahhh, a Shin Megami Tensei game and one of the only games I've been itching to play this month on my DS. I remember playing Aeon Genesis' translated SMT games on the SNES and I liked the whole demon summoning and negotiaition thing that was present in the game. Hopefully this game won't let me down as I've always liked this series.

    There is no strategy in a game like this >\_> mehh all straight-forward, chityy-chityy-bang-bang... these types of games are much easier than ATB Turn Based RPGs.

    You are giving these COMPs that look like DS's which your friend has tweaked. You use these to summon demons and to fight other demons.

    There is also an aution system which lets you bid on new demons to summon.

  • I've played for about 1 hour now and I love the game.

    The battle gameplay is very similar to Final Fantasy tactics; you get of party of 4 main characters, all of wich as 1 or 2 demons bound to them. You set your 4 main on a grid, you get 1 move action, one atack action, and your demon gets also a special skill action. When you atack enemy, the screen switches to a fight screen where your character, demon, and enemies exchange blows. Speed among other factors determine how many extra blow every one gets to do.

    Traveling around the world is simple, reminded a bit of Suikoden on DS. You just do around in menu navigation, every places as a few options in them such as : look around, listen to people, talk to your party. Key places that will advance the story will be marked, as well as if there is a battle in the area you go to. When there is a battle the navigation menu screen switches to the grid battle. When you talk or look around or whatever, it shows an environment picture and character arts while they talk.

    Speaking of wich, I think the character arts are very well done, and there's quite a few of them

    The story is also very compeling. You gotta do stuff to change a ''pre destined'' futur in order to escape your death clock and your ''destiny''.

    Definetly worth trying, Personally, this is the one game I'll spend the most time on in the most recent releases!

  • I have no doubt this is a great game.... I'm downloading it now. That said....never go by a gamespot review...they are notorious for giving shit reviews to great games. I like to go to Amazon and read the comments of the true gamefans who BUY the games and play them. As long as you know you like that particular genre, you can't go wrong. I've bought some great games as a result of reading those reviews .... Beyond good and Evil, Kya, Rogue Galaxy .. to name a few. Downloads done!

    Metacritic is good too .. you get many reviews together on that site.

  • Hachibei, yes it does. But for people who don't want to come up with their own name for the mc call him Shujinko. Kinda like calling the mc in Nocturne "Hitoshura" meaning half-demon (well i guess that is still more explanatory than just Shujinko-Protagonist). But I know a lot of people here call him Shujinko, but I personally named mines Jin because of what Shujinko means.

  • Awesome, finally a MegaTen game out for the NDS. Does anyone know if the magnificent Mara is in this game? As far as I can remember he's only appeared in SMT2, Soul Hackers, P1 (as Toro's persona), Nocturne (in flaccid slime form), P3:FES, and Raidou 2 (which had him in full uncensored glory).

  • For R4 user that may have similar problem to mine (see older post) - game freezes everytime u tried to speak with any of your friends - I searched and tried many possible solutions and finally I CAN PLAY THE GAME!!! Actually I'm not so sure which of the two solutions fixed the problem so just tried them all.

    1. Download and replace the firmware to the newest. The newest one is v 1.22 and can be downloaded from this website http://www.r4li.com/ and don't forget to download the newest moonshell too.

    2. Re-format your card

    About the 1st option, old website's firmware will not be updated anymore (v 1.18)....probably....so visit the new website~

  • When i first played persona 3, i began losing my concept of reality (in a good way) to bend it how i wanted it. i was that indepth with the game... now i can bring that feeling with me on the ds. i love SMT.

    alright so basically, its a strategy game like fire emblem, except when u attack something, it goes toa turn based rpg.

    My only complain about this game, is the gameplay itself. I mean... the graphics for battle aren't too appealing, and i dont like how the rpg screen looks (just being picky). But the sound, the music, the quality, the in depth, the storyline... everything is just great. If you like stories in a game, don't miss this by any means... the gameplay is still very fun, and the only reason id give it a 9 instead of a 10/10 is jus the gameplay. Do not pass this game up

  • Vin its works fine on my dstt with latest firmware. SOmething must be wrong with yours. I have sdhc card though so IDK if that makes a difference. I think it might be only your problem cause no one reported of it not working in ndstt.

    You use the D-pad. Right on the D-pad to distribute a point, and left to undo it if you change your mind.

  • Played a bit of this and basically its one of the new 'breed' of Tactical RPGs.

    Your characters talk and emote alot before going to a \_predetermined\_ battle and there are a few other 'freebie' battles that you can engage in if your characters are too weak to progress the story-line. Its like Luminous Arc (Though not as funny) and Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings (But turn-based and without the real-time clustermucked battles) in that and maybe some others you've heard about.



    It sucks (And all RPGs like this!) as it has way too much boring and repetitive dialogue about nothing that you'd care about or that relates directly to the story-line/plot. You'll find yourself pushing the button to advance the story more than you will deciding how to beat an opponent!



    GAH!, where are all the good grinding RPGs?! What's happening to the Japanese that they can make crap RPGs like this nowadays?!? Oh Noooss! :)



    Oh well, at least there's still stuff like Dragon Quest V out left for me. I'd give this at most a 6/10 (Sorry, that's the best I can do...The music is kewl though)

  • I've been playing this game for a few days now; it is REALLY good. The combat is unique and requires quite a bit of strategy, the auction and fusion systems are addicting (I can't stop fusing demons; I think I have a problem, and the storyline is engaging. I might go out and buy it just to support this game.

  • I will say I got completely hooked on this game. Compelling storyline and characters. It is a Tactical RPG, and it can be frustrating at first. But once you get the hang of it, the game becomes a lot more fun. Be weary though, that it's not easy, and it is rather challenging.

  • This is a great game. the gameplay is good, the story feels like TWEWY to me, it has the same goal...survive. The graphics is fine, too. you can say Atlus mixed final fantasy tactics with dragon quest with the TWEWY feeling.

  • The best way i know to beat belial is pound him with bufudyne (with ice jump, also i used my MC, he had 21 mag at the time)

    this game is great, just like all other smt i've encountered:)

  • The game is fun boss stage quite hard. Almost vomit blood trying to create full st element resistance to cover element weakness. Quite fun at the back when can create element demons that can boost stats of current ones when fusion.



    fire belidiar = fire base, create demons with fire resistance and pump them with ice skills. For me I use fairy + lvl42 Tyrant Heacate. Going to fight this boss later now still thinking about which side should I be with, God, Demon Or kill both and own the humans as my slave hahaha.



    Not sure if anyone knows Fuse Mitama Ara Mitama with any race it will change back to same monster with stats buff. Simple works is +stats. Creating 1 need just around 5600 - 6000 Macca.



    Btw can Keisuke be save? In my part he dies while I manage to save mari and midori. currently I'm at fire belidiar 1730 in 1 more tries I will fight him now preparing ice attacks faries army.

  • Yea fun just beat fire belidiar. I use yuzu + 2 special make for fire belidiar fairies. all have bufudyne and endure + both fairies are st with fire. each round deal him with at least 1800 dmg. Try twice cause 1 round fail to hunt all skills didn't expect him to come up to me. 2nd round he manage to cast 1* all area att.



    decide to go with gin version 1st after that than try yuzu, demon lord, god. current lvl 46-48 hope I can success clearing the game.

  • When I first hear there was a shin megami tensei game for the ds, I peed my pants, love SMT series, persona 3 was my first venture and I was hooked. I must sadly say this game did not live up to the full potential. First the music is awesome, hands down. but there is too much dialouge for as many endings as there are. You end up rereading the same stuff over and over, I can't replay the first day because I know what happens. The story is really in depth, on par with other SMT games, but it kinda feels like they were reaching at points, trying to force somethings to fit. I found the demons to be the same as any SMT with no new additions, a major let down. All in all I give it a 7/10 could have been better, but I've see worse.

    After the introduction scenes (you enter your name, talk to your friends, etc) and you have control, Yuzu's image is distorted and I can't save.

    Anyone else having this problem? Or do you know how to fix it?

  • this game is not bad for going with the turn based srpg style. falls in line with the usual SMT games like nocturne or persona. the upgrades to your demons are fun to play with especially the comments they give before they are fused. overall with the game play its a 9/10.

  • Ashay...you are supposed to say reasonable things like...This game is bad because of..... and then supporting facts. I personlaly love the demons and the story line..i find myself getting caught in what i really would do had i been in Abels place... i chose amane first...
