    Game's fun, very much like the first one. New puzzles, different story, exactly the same style. If you liked the first one, you'll like this one.

  • Well this game is a sequel to Professor Layton And The Curious Village it is almost the same but has new puzzles and a different story line,though what I understood the story is serious(it is about a box that anyone opens,dies)but I am not going to spoil anything else.It is a collection of puzzles and brain teasers and can be very tough at parts.It is aimed to all ages but,like the last one,contains things that children would prefer.
    Note:this game contains cut scenes which is why it is a big file.

  • This is a game which children may love, but I'm sure it appeals as much to adults as children. Some of the puzzles are particularly vexing, and perhaps too difficult for children (even the early ones!).

    Of course, there is help online to solve the puzzles if you know where to look. I prefer not to use the help though :)

  • This is great. If you use the first and third game codes. You could unlock further rewards. And there is 3 or so returning characters. And 5 new characters in this game.

    (p.s. not sure if the third game of the Professor Layton and The Last Time travel have the englsih version one yet or come out yet else where. So sorry, if I confuse anyone. )

    So, basically, it's the gameplay's like the first one, but with a different story, different characters and different puzzles? Sweet.

  • Am I the only one who noticed a fair bit of lag on lukes first line of dialog in th opening video?

    It's weird since the rest is perfectly synced, but there's a distinct (almost a second) gap between his facial animation and his voice....

    Not that it's a game breaker or anything... just odd :)

    On-topic, this is another great game in the series. It may seem like it's a lot more plot-heavy than the first game, but once you get into it people start bombarding you with random puzzles just as you expect. And there's a secret that needs a password from the third game, so it's pretty safe to assume the next one will also be coming to the West... rock on!

  • As for the game, I loved the first one and I have an 18 hour trip (including two 5 1/2 hour flights) coming up that this game will help me survive.

  • Definitely a must have for puzzle fanatics. If you're wondering about sequals, the third one's already out in Japan, and they're starting on another trilogy of Layton games, the first of which is due out sometime this fall (in Japan). So, if Nintendo and Level 5 keep it up, we'll see at least another 4 Layton games =D

    It sure does, just make sure you type I (with the lines) properly if uppercase and i (with the dot) if lowercase.

  • i just finished playing the first game yesterday and now the second game is out! awesome timing.

  • It seems that nobody made a summary (of the story) yet,so I'll give one to be helpful. For those of you that played the first, it still has those riddles. :D

    So here's from IGN, the summary!!! YEA!! :

    "The sequel to Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village, this title focuses on a box which kills its openers. Layton goes in to investigate and solve the mystery before it's too late.

    Puzzle master Professor Layton and his apprentice, Luke, have stumbled upon another mystery. It's up to them to navigate their way through numerous puzzles to determine who – or what – caused the death of Professor Layton's mentor, Dr. Schrader. Was it the mysterious Elysian Box, rumored to kill all who open it? Professor Layton and Luke find a clue that begins their adventure: a train ticket for the Molentary Express."

  • I beat the first one with my brother and let me say this is one game that anyone who enjoys puzzles will love!

  • Just from playing this game for a few minutes, I can tell it's amazing

    There is alot more voice work in it if you enjoyed it in the first game, The puzzles in my opinon are way more fun than in The Currious village, there are obvious graphical enhancements with dialoge boxes and other objects, and the Laytonmobile makes it's amazing return!

    The only thing that I can complain about is that it freezes on me right after you discover Layton's mentor's death.... but this game is just so great that I'm happily buying it tomorrow

  • Yes! Layton 2 is out! This is one more
    darker then the first one I heard. I hope this
    is even longer than the first as well.

  • I suggest you leave a bit more room, rather than packing everything in. First off, the game is 128 MB, but on disk, it's 131 MB. Second, When you start a new game on a flash card, it creates a .sav for it. Each .sav is 1/2 a MB. This space can pile up. It's best to keep anywhere from 200 - 500 MB free, after game additions, so the card isn't too crowded.

    @ Zekx - It is a little bit darker, and they implement puzzles a lot better. Rather than having a chunk of story, and then a puzzle, they throw a puzzle (that has some relation to the subject) in the middle of the story.

  • Yes. After you've saved once, when you restart the game, there will be a section called "Bonuses". In there, Picarats are used to unlock bonus features (mainly concept art, music, etc.)

  • great game puzzles are fun only problem is it gets fairly repetitive with about 300 - 400 puzzles. One great feature which is used much more in this game is the mobi clip video codec with many captivating and cool video cutscenes and in some cases text bars with added audio (this is not always there) my rating is 8/10 thanks for the early dump romulation.

  • yay It's out in US . I've been doing a countdown this week. Puzzle games rock and the professor layton series is by far one of the best puzzle games I've ever played. i hope the story has some twists in it like the least one did. And dark plots are always welcome in my mind.

  • Cubezzz, to fully understand who the characters are and what has already happened it's best to have played the first one, but if you're just wanting to play it for the puzzles then it'll still be great. You'll be hooked within an hour!! I love the layton games, have been pining for the second one ever since I completed the first! I think the Japanese version of 3 is already out there...more layton...wahoo!

  • CAUTION: if you are a first time layton player, it is recommended that you play through the first game before you play this one. there is a cut scene at the beginning of the game that you will not understand unless you play the first one. i havent quite beaten this one yet, but there are plenty of surprises for returning players. lots of returning characters including you-know-who...

  • If you liked the first Prof. Layton game, you will like this one as it is exactly like the first game, and I mean EXACTLY the same... the same characters, same voices, same animation style in the cutscenes, same gameplay, same hint system, same picarat use, just new puzzles and a different main theme.

    on another note this is an exceptional game much like the first. The only gripes I have with it is the puzzles that you are sometimes forced to do to advance the story, if you can`t solve it only some serious thinking and many do-overs will save you.

    In another note many recurring characters and a plot as convoluted as the first one is back, but i seem to have noticed the story is less obvious than the first one

  • It's as good as the first one if not better. There's one thing though: I'm in Europe and the weekly downloadable puzzles don't seem to work, DO YOU THINK IT'S BECAUSE ITS A "U" GAME, OR IT'S JUST TOO EARLY TO THE WEEKLYS TO START? I don't want to solve many puzzles only to realize I'll have to wait for the "E" version to arrive to have to start over again.
    What do you think?

  • Sylux_me - For puzzle 59, I know it says you need the ticket but you don't really. if you use all the hint coins you can for it, it pretty much tells you how to solve it. I was a bit worried at first when I read that but it can be done without it.

  • The game is fine but at one point it says you need the instruction booklet to do the puzzle. This is true. Or at least it will be a lot easier if you have a booklet.

  • I've completed this game. Very very very good game if you dont want a SPOILER STOP READING by the time they reach the phantom town theresa mine there where they dug up some meal that releases gas that makes you see everything differently all the people you talked to are based on what you thought the town would look like by the pictures in the train station where the gas couldnt reach them and the elysian (diabolical) bx is made of the ame metal so most people thought they would de when they opened it would smell the gas and act like they were dead. however proffesr layton and luke didnt die or anything because the proffesor didnt belive he would die the box also has two different ways to open it and was used to carry love notes between two people

  • after the credits it says to be continued and a picture of some sort of time machine the third one is called the last time travel

  • im a BIG professor layton fan, not usually that much of a gamer but the first one got me hooked!! been waiting for layton 2 since i finished curious village way back!! not out in england til 25th september! is the us verion very different to the europe version (pandora's box)?? should i wait til E version or download this one??

  • just completed this game and its awesome, I loved the ending, very sad and happy at the same time, but be sure you watch til the end of the credits until you can save your game in its entirety
    Im going to buy the original of this game, as I quite want to do the downloading of the extra puzzles, but nintendo (bless them) are importing updates as soon as you go into their shop which blocks your card and is useless (thats if you've got the R4i cards, where theres no repair unlike the acekard 2i which has)

  • for you who want to know: the E version called indeed the pandora's box,because europa was afraid that poeple will when in called the diabolocal box it will refered to hell or something. the E version only different after that is that it has next to english also a other languege. the only one i know is dutch. the dutch version is tyoed by a guy who works by the netherland's most famous game magazine called Power Unlimited. i don't know other langueges.
    but me a dutch person plays just the english version, because it is more believable when a british guy speaks english.

  • God, this is like, THE best game ever... well apart from the first one... that was pretty good... oh! and apart from the third which will be translated very soon, there will be a fourth game being released in the Layton series, what it will be called i don't know, but japan will get it first (well obviously, considering that the nintendo company in japan is who makes it...).

  • the only one thing I'm going to give away in this is that there is a strip club in the game, because when you try going there it says "it is best that you know about this when you're older" or "sorry, no children allowed" but at the end of the game, there is a picture showing Luke peeking behind the woman standing outside the strip club, Professor Layton is showing the expression on his face for Luke to stop looking...

  • GASP!! I am a TOTAL fan of the series, so thank you so much!! Although, I haven't finished the frist one because it was too hard for me.

  • There is a point in the game where you need to use the microphone to solve A (yes one) puzzle. (I wont tell which) But if you don't have a mic, simply play some music through your speakers and it should "activate" the emulator's mic and solve the puzzle.

    And if someone said this already, sorry for the repeat, its pretty important.

    I love the cutscenes, super deep storyline, and clever mysteries that all tie together! I hope they make the sequel soon (even though this one just came out)!

    Yeah cos stupid me thought it was a completely new game and realised its the same. I give ya permission to laugh at my stupid blond moment. lol

  • This game rocks - hands down. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING- I finished it in about 11 hours in a spread of 3 days - I just couldn't put it down. Can't wait Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel. And! After that there is going to be another set of Professor Layton stories coming out which starts before the Curious Village when Luke was just a boy! I can't wait!

  • Gosh i've been searching this game in every where to find professor lyton series games, fortunatelly i read sombody's blog about this site and he was exatly right, this site is very usefull for the game mania thank you Romulation!   • I just finished playing Professor Layton the curious village. I am totally excited to play the diabolical box. By the way, are the puzzles in this game very different or are they similiar?

  • Still have number to solve, boxes to move and pictures to analyze...but in this series we can download weekly puzzle. You can use wifi connection to download the weekly puzzle. Believe me it's very fun.

  • a good game indeed. just finished 100% (150 puzzles including sub-puzzles) of it and it took me 11 hours. now I'm playing the "curious village"
