  • I've been playing this game for roughly two hours straight and I must say it's absolutely wonderful. Astonishingly cozy music as well as graphics, intriguing storyline and marvelous gameplay!

    It has a very close resemblance to the Golden Sun-series, although in a different ambient, divergent weaponry and more modern travel assistance.

    This is, pursuant to me, a must have for any DS owner, doesn't really matter whether you like RPG:s or not.

    Works perfectly on AceKard 2i by the way.

    What's up with this freaking "needs to be new"-obsession? Why not refine what exists instead of adding new things the entire time?

    According to me that's without any sign of hesitation this particular game's strongest and most seductive attribute. The touch screen becomes redundant and I absolutely love it! Technically, that mere thing brings me back years, ergo, true nostalgia.

    Final Fantasy knoch-off? Gee, what isn't these days? Cheap? Nu-uh, don't think so.

    Be sincere and tell me you've even played past the intro...

    So according to the comments already made I think I will download this and give it a go.
    The descriptions of the games on other websites and videos do make this game look pretty epic.. I think people should give it a go.

    EDIT: The game is not free if you notice. People are saying it takes off 0 points, but it does in fact take off 70 odd.

  • Excellent game. I am a large fan of anything pertaining to the Final Fantasy series.. Having a game taking place in a steam punk world such as this is quite interesting.

  • Fantastic. Nice, quick gameplay, great graphics, interesting world, and an immediately interesting storyline.

    Gameplay reminds me more of the later Dragon Quest games (though with the annoyances cleaned up) than a Final Fantasy. Party seems largely plot-determined, not much switching around; combat is tactical but pretty simple.

    All in all "Nostalgia" is a great name for this game. Think one of the better PS2 (or maybe even PSX) JRPGs with more of a steampunk European feel.

  • I must say I'm disappointed with this. But I didn't like Final Fantasy IV very much either... From what I've played it seems to be an average cookie-cutter JRPG. The graphics are bland, the music is unisnpired and the battles don't have any tension. Sorry guys, don't want to spoil your fun but I much prefer, let's say, Wizard of Oz to this. That game at least oozes with atmosphere.

  • the problem isn't that the game is similar to final fantasy, its that it plays like an exceptionally bland version of FF. the battles go on for hours (exaggeration, don't crap your pants!) and they story doesn't pick up at all in the first two hours, which is all that i could play of this game.

    if you like snappy RPG's with character, stay away from this one. if you like mild, shoddy, overrated RPG's, then this is the game for you.

  • One novelty about this game is that instead of using conventional weapons such as swords and guns, all the weapons in this game are foodstuffs. The list I have discovered so far:

    The baguette
    Mouldy tomato
    Brussel sprouts
    Pizza
    Eggs
    Brioche
    Cheese

    You can also make recipes in order to kill (fill up) enemies faster.

    4 thumbs way up.

  • It isn't exactly as good as Final Fantasy 4 (in my opinion) but it still owns! Highly recommend it. Works well so far!

  • Seeing this game reminds me of Suikoden Tierkreis...Love it.
    Moving storylines...Cool armor/weapons.
    And even special bosses in each area!

    Looking at the pictures...It has the same battle system like Suikoden
    But no teamates help me spamming star powers :P
    A well, downloading it right now, i hope more games like these come out.

    More fashion games are coming up -.-
    or some pets games... *sigh*
    Never a good hearted RPG :P(except for now of course)

  • In the lack of another Final Fantasy this will do (gonna play it when I've finished Kingdom Hearts)
    In the trailers it seems there is some airship to airship battles in turns final fantasyish like, cool!´
    The turn system is like in final fantasy, I think it was 8, you get to see how many attacks you'll receive if you cast a slow spell, wich is more strategic than usual.
    Seems good.

  • This game is a good parallel of Skies of Arcadia.. Made by the same team that redid Final Fantasy IV..

    Set in an alternate 19th century in which the protagonist goes on a journey after his father goes missing.. Pretty typical jRPG plot, and doesn't radically break the mold, there..

    The characters are pretty interesting, the battle system is enjoyable without too much tedium (though, random battles are certainly becoming a thing of the past).. The airship battles aren't all that unique compared to the normal battles, unfortunately.. I was hoping for an airship battle system a bit more akin to Skies of Arcadia, but it's not bad, by any stretch of the imagination.

    All things considered, it's a good throwback RPG.. Combines many of the most enjoyable aspects of the games we loved, 15 years ago, without many of the downsides.

  • This Game runs excellent on "Desmume".

    As some Romu-Users said before,it`s a nostalgic Trip straight back to the glorious 16-Bit RPG`s. Graphics are good (for the DS of course) and the Music is also very fine. After a couple of Hours I just have to say: go and get it, it`s worth a try if you like the older "Dragon Quest" / "Final Fantasy" Games.

  • LOL..okay, this is really funny, anything to do with food weapons sound bonkers, you can count me in!:) Have downloaded it and tested on R4, everything seems to be doing well, no hangs, no black out screens, everything is smooth sailing. A very classic type of RPG, very well illustrated, charming graphics and it's true, we don't get this very often on the NDS, so what are you waiting for? Smooth controls and easy to get the hang of it. A 8/10 game. Good job!

    I thought it was obvious that the first mission is a prologue, considering the blonde kid is on the box and in every single screenshot that you see online for this game.

  • Just started it a couple hours ago, in love. Been waiting for an RPG to bring me back to the old times and this has done it. Really good game. Love the whole adventurer feel to it, especially the music.

  • a very well done final fantasy clone, they even cloned the moogles (kupo!). if you're into rpg ,then this is a must play.it can't compete with any square-enix prodiction, but it's good nevertheless.

  • This is a very good game. Airship battles are...ok.Not like in Final Fantasy, you'd probably die on the airship battles( that is if you have low endurance) while traveling.

    I think this strategy has been discovered, but I'll tyell anyway.
    My strategy is to have eddie use Over...what was it again? then combo attack. It'll deal a better amount of damage.

  • Man, this game is like the sunshine after a week of grey clouds. I've been in a gaming slump lately, but this game really perked me right up. Just like the title's namesake, I do feel a bit of the video game nostalgia while playing it. The battles remind me of Wild Arms and the cities remind me of Guardian's Crusade.

    Plus, this doesn't happen often, but I'm really enjoying the plot. Self-exploration and adventures are my bread n' butter, but also trying to find one's missing parents? Now thats a tear-wrencher for me.

  • awesome game. kinda like a crossbread of final fantasy ds remakes and skies of arcadia. it isnt to difficult though. nice graphics, but could have more depth with the leveling up and learning techniques. definately give it a try. glad i did.

    First youll have to go in the cave and read the tablet. then go to the pond with the moon inside on your left. after you inspect that then go to the bridge to the south and inspect that. after you do that a light will appear infront of the waterfall revealing el dorado. note: you will have to run fast to the entrance because it closes after awhile. Let me know if this helps

  • @damok- yes, US games work fine in europe, but there are simply different language options- like english, french or spanish instead of other languages like german.

  • Hmm... on my R4 copy the game freezes randomly in battles in the tower of Bable... it's really annoying since I play for 20 minutes, don't get to the save point, and it freezes. Anyone know what's going on?

    It was great but when I was about to save it, it said that I couldn't save it and I need to turn off the power and reinsert the game card.
    Tried it over and over but NO LUCK!

  • fun game but after a certain point there is no cahllenge. i never trained to lvl up and i bea the boss in 2 turns. and to go with that the airship battles were insanely hard. 10 hrs in it gets better though

  • If you ever had the opportunity of playing "Final Fantasy III and IV" and "Suikoden Tierkreis", both games of DS, amazing games, good graphics, good gameplay and good sound. This game is in the top 5 games of the DS, together with the ones i just mentioned, the complex story and the different battle style are things that you have to talk about, so the review goes like this:

    Graphics: 4/5
    Sound: 5/5 (It's not a boring or irritant sound)
    Gameplay: 4/5
    Story: 5/5
    Overall: 4.8/5 (ALMOST AS GOOD AS KINGDOM HEARTS)

  • Guys, i am stuck with the mini quest whereby i have to get the key for pamela.she say she lost the key somewhere at the pyramid.But unfortunely,i went there,and there is no track of the keys in every single pyramid floor i searched for.is there some sort of bug or something??? give some feedback if you have to same problem guyZ.

  • This game is not fantastic, but still... OK. I won't comment much since I'm not done playing but one thing I find quite frustrating is probably the quests. I swear something's missing but couldn't figure what it was.

  • Frankly, this game has nothing on skies of Arcadia, or any good rpg. I'll admit I enjoyed the opening with the whole indiana jones thing, but the rest is not up to par. The airship battles are terrible (ram them with a huge blade on your ship? come on!) and the rest of the gameplay and story is bland and uninteresting. Lots of people seem to like it though, so don't let me stop you from downloading it.

  • I love this game so far, but haven't been able to play very much of it since every time I go into the menu, It shows the symbol thats on the bottom of the screen a lot of the time, and just freezes, Wont let me back out of the menu or anything. If someone could tell me whats wrong, that would be great

  • this is a fun game. ignition and red studios developed. plays like skies of arcadia with the airship battles. the skill sets are different since you use SP to upgrade them and then unlock more Skills. over all the play reminds me of a typical RPG.

    8.5/10 for me

  • You don't fight with food. What are you guys on about? Regarding the game; it runs on R4 Revolution with the 1.18 firmware without any trouble. The graphics are decent for DS and the visual style is pretty nice. Music is pleasant to listen to, though clearly derivative of Final Fantasy (in particular the battle theme.) Battles are very much like Final Fantasy and character information/upcoming turns are conveniently displayed on the bottom screen. I found myself requiring a large amount of healing items in early chapters as characters were constantly outnumbered and pummeled by groups of enemies while having no skills that could effectively dispatch multiple foes, though this is not much of an issue given that money is relatively easy to come by through battles. Where it mostly falls short though is the lackluster storyline, with little character development through the course of the game. The characters converse very little, though topical conversations can be viewed by pressing the Y button to talk to whomever is in your party at the time. Overall I would rate the visual and aural facets fairly high, but I would have liked to see more attention paid to fleshing out the characters' personalities and working up a more exciting plot. In conclusion I feel it's a good game, but not a great one. I would recommend this one to fans of steampunk, and maybe even first time RPG players, as the learning curve is practically absent.
