  • This is the 8th installment of SEGA's "Shining" series of RPGs. (e.g. Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, Shining Soul, Shining Wind, Shining Road, Shining Tears, etc) Shining Wisdom builds around the "Shining" character Mars and the game offers a similar active-battle/adventure style as Nintendo's "Legend of Zelda" series. The game relies on the players quick reflexes and problem solving skills to complete the tasks at hand while using an array of items and orbs to get to your destinations. This is a really good game and one of the better action/rpg/adventure games released by SEGA. A truly under-rated jewel.

I will also post some pictures later...

  • Okay just a note, I am using a flashed Saturn [U] Console and "SSF 0.11 Alpha R5" emulator on Windows Vista running in XP SP2 compatibility mode (2.0Ghz Celeron Processor, 4Gb DDRAM, Nvidia GForce 8400 512Mb Gfx Card, Diamond Audio 512Mb Studio 7.1DD 64Mb float audio). At first the game didn't run at all on either, but Saturn Emulation isn't for the weak at heart.

To run this, you must, 1: set region and bios to Eur [E], or convert the region to Jap/USA/Eur aka [JUE]. You can do this in whatever program suits you, but I prefer "SRP (Saturn Region Patcher) v3.0 Gold Edition" (freeware) released by and kudos to the man Madroms for that, be sure to follow the step by step instructions enclosed (can't link it so Google it).

    2. Make sure you have Net framework 1.1 and the latest version of DirectX (June 2010) installed for this to work! (I suggest downloading the DX Web Installer to always keep that up to date, Google it).

If it still isn't working (or like me, you get the SEGA logo, maybe the opening with menus but then a crash) follow these instructions...

3: Extract and decompress the BIN, then rewrap the BIN as an ISO.

4: Use "SEGA Cue Maker," to create a new ".cue" file for the ISO. Mount the ISO to "Daemon Tools," or "Alcohol 120%," select the virtual drive (CDRWIN) with your emulator, and run the emu. It works now.

4B: Alternately, you can mount the ISO, I suggest IMGBurn (Freeware OS) to a CDR disk and play it in your Saturn.

5: If you are still having trouble, (A: you did it wrong or (B: your computer is to lame for Saturn emulation.
(JUST A NOTE: My PC runs Dolphin, PJ64, ePSXe, and NullDC like a dream, but I have SSF, Satourne, GiriGiri, Cassini, and Saturnin on this piece and Saturn EMUs drag it down on lower RES games than the other systems because of how the emulated processing is run. Just because you can rock N64, Xbox, or 3DO, don't mean a thing, SS EMU is a beast of its own nature)

After I got this to run I took the screens that are here, so IT DOES WORK!!! I had the game running NEAR perfect, about 40-50fps (65-85% speed, totally playable!) full BGM and SE audio with FMVs, menus worked fine, about a 15ms delay on control response, barely noticeable, and dialog boxes seemed to run at 100% but there was a slight hang sometimes before the text box opens, sometimes after, sometimes both.

Other than that, I give this 4.5 Stars (as good as it gets) for EMU and 5 for console (works like its fresh out of the box). Hope that helps y'all!
