Famicom Mini Vol. 21 - Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan

This is the official, real, honest to goodness Super Mario Brothers 2. The original SMB2 that was released in the US was a port of a game known in Japan as Doki Doki Panic, featuring non-Mario characters, but similar gameplay and levels. This is the original sequel to Super Mario that was deemed too similar and too difficult to the original for US release. When it was finally released in the 90's, it was known as "The Lost Levels". Originally released only on the Famicom Disk System, this is one of the few Famicom games that never received a proper cartridge based release, thus it's existence to most import gamers is relatively unknown since the Disk System requires a working, RF based Famicom, a working FDS drive, and a working copy of the Super Mario Brothers 2 floppy disk. All three are quite expensive to obtain in tandem and all in working order. This cartridge was meant to provide as close of an emulation to the original release as possible until the Virtual Console release of Super Mario Brothers 2 on the Wii.

True. I should say, this is Japan's Super Mario Bros 2. The Wii Virtual Console one was finally a direct US port.

What you have is not the original Super Mario Bros. 2. This is a lot like the first one except it's a lot harder. You can also get it on Wii Virtual Console or by beating Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for GBC.

The original Super Mario Bros 2 is great. Too bad it took many years for an unedited US release.
