This game is amazing, but I'd suggest just playing PSOBB on pc on the Schthack servers, that way you'll be able to enjoy it to the fullest by doing multiplayer, having access to all items and quests japanese and english, and access to episode 4 which isn't on the gamecube. fablerew pointed it out in 2010 and I thought I'd leave a newer comment about it, since the servers are still up and running.
Is it possible to play the gamecube version online anymore? through private server's like the dreamcast one im hearing about.
this game is still tops as an action rpg. no one could move me my cousins and mates when we played 4player up(4 controllers on gc) it was awesome the customization for your character really was setting a standard for rpg character creation, and for those of you looking for the pc version to play online it is called star fantasy or phantasy oline enjoy!!!!
i remember when i first got this game how excited i was i wouldnt let anyone touch the gamecube for weeks! and anyone still wanting to play online there is a pc version, the name escapes me, that is just the online play and its free its a private run server. just takes time to find it
People looking for old games or systems should try game quest. It sells every system game. :D I just bought a ps1 memory card there too :D
I always wanted to play this game back in the day but couldn't afford the game's monthly fees at the time, and had trouble finding a copy of the game to boot. There were some new features added to the Gamecube version, but nothing worth noting. The Dreamcast was definately a better console for online gaming than the Gamecube, and the PS2. You can actually still play Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst - the last build of the game - on the SHTACK (spelling?) fan server. It's what all of the cool kids are doing anyway.
can I make this work with a GC emulator?

i love this game to bad they stoped selling the gc pso games at gamestop it has nice game play and every thing you woulde want in an rpg
I've had PSO since it came out on the Dreamcast, and the only reason I sold the Dreamcast version was to fund my buying the Gamecube version back when it was only $40 used and you could actually find it. Download this game. You won't regret it.
This game is amazing, but is highly overpriced nowadays. I had a copy for the game-cube and it was eventually stolen from me, and now that i looked back to find it, to enjoy the game again, it costs somewhere up near $200 for a new copy, I mean, even used copy's are over $100! It's really a let down to see that the game became so popular after it was discontinued. You can't even do the online play anymore, SEGA shutdown the servers. But none the less, the game is still very enjoyable, and I would highly recommend any RPG gamer to try and give it a go if you can. Everything in the game is the basic elements of any RPG, a level system, party system, a way to chat, and it even had online play at one point. Weapons can be upgraded by 'grinding', and there is a wide variety of weapon choices. Characters can be very highly customized in this game, and there is a large range of playing styles for each class, and depending on each person. Overall, this game requires a small degree of patients, as you do have to grind your level occasionally; but any RPG gamer would expect that from a proper RPG game. This game in my honest opinion, deserves 8.5 out of 10 stars, for it's good story telling, easy to understand controls, RPG elements, and it's customization ability.
This game is legendary, I recommend this to any RPG gamer. Contains a leveling system and 'grindable' equipment
